Edward  was  a  Lieutenant-General  in  the  Grenadier  Guards who  fought  at  Waterloo. He  married  the  daughter  of  the  Earl  of  Radnor  whose  family  had  a  huge  influence  on  the  seat.

He  died  in  1882  aged  86.
