287 William Monson
Constituency : Reigate 1858-62
William was the son and heir of Baron Monson. He entered Parliament at a by-election in 1858.
William's Commons career was brief. He did not speak and succeeded his father in 1862.
William was appointed to Treasurer of the Household in 1874 by Gladstone. He was Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard throughout Gladstone's second and third ministries and served as the Liberal Chief Whip in the Lords from 1880 to 1892. In 1886 he was created Viscount Oxenbridge. He was Master of the Horse from 1892 to 1894.
He died in 1898 aged 69.
