Munira became the first Liberal Democrat since 2010 to inherit a seat from an LD predecessor when she succeeded Vince Cable at Twickenham. The Green arty stood down in her favour but she didn't need that.
Munira was born in London to parents who were both East African Indians from Zanzibar..She went to Cambridge where she studied modern languages. She started work as a tax consultant with Ernst and Young then had short spells working for Sue Doughty and Nick Clegg. She stood for Feltham and Heston in 2010 coming third. She then worked for nearly ten years as a lobbyist.
Munira became the Liberal Democrats' Health spokesperson in 2020 then switched to Education in 2021.
She is a convert from Islam to Christianity.
