Angela joined the Liberal Democrats two days after Luciana Berger.
Angela was born in Grimsby. She left school at 16 and worked in the NHS for five years before going to University. She became an English lecturer at an FE College in South Yorkshire in 1994 and worked there till 2003.She was elected to Sheffield City Council in 1996. Following her election in 2005 she became PPS to Yvette Cooper. In 2009 she was criticised in the expenses scandal but survived. She was Shadow Deputy Leader of the House under Ed Miliband but didn't serve under Corbyn. In 2018 her local party passed a vote of no confidence in her over her lack of support for Corbyn and opposition to water re-nationalisation. She joined the breakaway group that became Change UK in 2019 and immediately drew critcism for using the phrase "funny tinge" when discussing race relations. She left Change UK to sit as an independent before joining the Liberal Democrats.
In December 2019, she switched to Altrincham and Sale West because it had voted to Remain in 2016 and achieved a small increase in the Liberal Democrat vote though it cost her Out of Office compensation payments.
Since leaving Parliament she has taken up a couple of company directorships.
