Charles took over from George Brown at Edinburgh Central.
Charles started out as a travelling salesman for Cadbury's then formed a biscuit baking company McVitie and Price.
Charles was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Charles stood down in 1918.
He died in 1934 aged 77.
