1530 James Cleland
Constituency : Glasgow Bridgeton 1906-10
James took Glasgow Bridgeton from the Tories.
James was a manufacturer's son from the city. He was educated at Glasgow Academy and Oxford where he became President of the Union. He became a barrister. He contested the constituency in 1900. A year later he became a Progressive councillor in London. He stood for Lewisham in a by-election in 1903.
James held the seat easily in January 1910 but chose not to defend it in December.
He died in 1914 aged 40.
