2257 Michael Moore
Constituency : Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale 1997-2005, Berwickshire ,Roxburgh and Selkirk 2005-2015
We reach the first MP who is not only still alive but actually younger than me.
Michael succeeded David Steel as MP for Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale.
Michael was born in Northern Ireland where his father was chaplain to the British Army. He was educated at Jedburgh Grammar School and Edoinburgh University. He worked as a researcher for Archy Kirkwood for a year but then moved into accountancy, working for Cooper's & Lybrand.
On his election, Michael was regarded as top eye candy in the House and it was said the "Blair babes" were jostling for the best places to view him on the benches opposite him. He became an economics then transport spokesman. Under Charles Kennedy he was Deputy Foreign Affairs then Defence spokesman.
Following boundary changes, Archy Kirkwood made way for Michael in what was mainly his seat in 2005. He took over Foreign Affairs when Menzies Campbell became leader but Nick Clegg moved him to Shadow Secretary of State for International Development.
Michael became Secretary of State for Scotland in the hurried reshuffle following David Laws's resignation. He piloted the Scotland Act 2012 giving the Scottish Parliament more powers but was relieved of his post in 2013 for the more combative Alistair Carmichael to take on the SNP in the independence referendum. In 2014-15 he successfully piloted his private member's bill to lock down the amount of international aid in the national budget.
In 2015, Michael was pushed into third place as the SNP took the seat.
Michael went back to finance with PwC and did not contest the 2017 election. Just over a month ago, he was appointed director general of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association. It remains to be seen if he will attempt a political comeback.
He is now 53
